Position Summary:

The Senior Financial Analyst (FP&A) reports to the Manager of Financial Reporting & Analysis and leads the development of analysis used by firm management and partners to more effective and efficiently manage the business. Through superior modeling knowledge and presentational skills, this individual is able to assemble concise and clear analyses and present in a format consistent with firm standards. The analyst supports the Firm’s financial and management reporting requirements in addition to being responsible for the review and coordination of all aspects relating to budget, forecast, and cost analysis with the regional accounting team and various department heads. Additionally, this position supports various firmwide stakeholders not limited to partners, practice group managers, accounting managers/directors and business development/marketing teams. The senior financial analyst often leads projects related to the ongoing development of reporting capabilities.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide detailed analysis of actual vs. budget performance across key metrics: revenue, hours billed, realization, utilization, and expenses.
  • Monitor attorney productivity metrics (e.g. billable hours, leverage, billing rates) and provide insights to leadership.
  • Building highly complex financial models, preparing routine and special reports for regional management, serving as liaison between the region and other corporate disciplines as necessary.
  • Partner with the billing and accounting teams to ensure accurate revenue recognition and expense allocations.
  • Participate in planning meetings with the supporting departments team, provide insights to expenses and to support ongoing business decisions.
  • Prepare and presents monthly reporting packages to executive and senior management.
  • Provide in depth financial trend analysis and communicate key expense drivers and metrics ensuring financial results are within targets.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of relevant accounting software and internal reporting enhancements.
  • Identify opportunities for financial efficiency and operational improvements.
  • Assist with preparation of various government and industry surveys.
  • Assist with ad-hoc financial projects, scenario planning, and special initiatives.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree required with concentration in Business (e.g., Finance, Accounting, or Economics preferred). CPA or MBA or equivalent work experience desired.

Experience:  5+ years of experience in FP&A, ideally within a law firm or professional services environment.

Skills And Abilities:

  • Advanced Excel skills, including complex formulas and financial modeling.
  • Experience with financial systems such as Elite, Aderant, or 3E preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong understanding of law firm economics, billing structures, and financial KPIs.
  • Ability to employ excellent time management practices.
  • Self-starter and excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent ability to multi-task.
