Job Summary

The mandate of the Transit Customer Systems and Planning Service is to provide customer service, service planning and technology and control systems support for OC Transpo, geared to providing excellence in customer service delivery to 100 million transit customers per year by means of conventional bus, para transit and rail operations. The Technology and Control Systems branch is responsible for managing multiple and major transit IT projects that are highly complex, of multi-million dollar value, normally extend over multiple years, and may require extensive public consultation.

You serve as the technical specialist for technology systems, including but not restricted to, the installation, maintenance and repair of advanced hardware/software systems such as Mobile Data Terminals (MDT), RF Radio, Automated Vehicle Location (AVL) readers, communication radios, Fuel Focus equipment, and vehicle diagnostic laptops. You participate in developing/designing/determining the computer system hardware/software components required for the operation of Transit Information Technology systems for the Branch, plan/develop systems’ life cycles, contribute to maintaining the optimum performance of hardware components and provide support to system users.

Education And Experience

Completion of 3 year community college diploma in either Engineering Technology, preferably in Electrical or Electronics fields, or Computer Technology, or a related field.

Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in the electronic engineering field, in the analysis, design, maintenance and repair of technology systems used in transit vehicles. Experience should include technical writing, specifications documentation and work experience in a unionized environment.

Knowledge

  • Branch/Division mandate, programs, policies, guidelines
  • Knowledge of electronic systems and their relationships to different OC Transpo vehicle types
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting, repair and design of electronic and mechanical components, and of documentation procedures
  • Possess an understanding of how technology systems relate to the structure/function of other planning, information and operational systems
  • Knowledge of radio frequency equipment including modems and communication protocols;
  • Performance and technical specifications
  • Business software and information systems (SAP, maintenance management information systems, project management)
  • Principles/techniques of project management
  • Knowledge of data collection, validation, analysis and uses
  • Must be familiar with all applicable health and safety legislation, have knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health or safety in the work place and have knowledge of appropriate actions to be taken in order to ensure the health and safety of staff in accordance with applicable legislation and City policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers
