Blue Line Distribution, the in-house distributor for Little Caesars Pizza, has been family owned and operated for over 50 years; and is dedicated to leading customized and innovative food service logistics with safety as a top priority. We are now hiring for an Inventory Specialist at our Global Resource Center in Detroit, MI.
Your Mission:
Responsible for all aspects of back haul and third-party logistics enabling Blue Line to take advantage of freight pickup allowances, outside freight opportunity and consolidation of less than truckload shipments.
The position will work closely with the Purchasing and Replenishment departments to negotiate freight allowances with inbound materials vendors and transportation rates with transportation providers with the main objective of service and optimal freight costs. The position will also be responsible for optimizing backhaul schedules, while negotiating carrier capacity and rates. Utilization of various transportation modes will be utilized to help reduce inbound freight expense and improve Blue Line performance. This is a fast-paced team environment with multiple internal and external customers.
How You’Ll Make An Impact:
- Ability to formulate just in time/emergency solutions in time sensitive situations to avoid product shortages to our distribution centers and customers.
- Strong analytical skills in Microsoft Excel and/ or Access with the ability to generate cost analysis reports, develop trends and provide forecasting for future bid packages.
- Ability to monitor and manage transportation vendors in the areas of commitment compliance, proactive communication, accurate invoicing and opportunity assessment.
- Monitor and act upon the daily on time execution of shipments from our vendors to our distribution network.
- Build and maintain strong business relationships with our Distribution Centers, vendors, carriers and customers.
- Offer expertise and solutions on transportation related subject matter to multiple internal Blue Line departments.
- Assist the Freight Claims Coordinator with management of carrier freight claims and salvage sales items in a timely manner.
- Weekly review with manager of the carrier report card data generated from the Transportation Management System, including analysis for recommendations and action items.
Who You Are:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Transportation Logistics, Supply Chain Management or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of three (3) years experience in the Freight transportation environment.
- Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience presenting high/low level projects to multiple business departments.
- Ability to influence and drive change within multiple departments.
- Ability to create and participate in a team based/positive work environment.
- Proficient in Excel, Transportation Management Systems, Outlook and AS/400.
- Understanding of basic DOT transportation rules and regulations.
- Ability to travel when necessary and adhering to the Travel Policy Guidelines.
- Industry knowledge and experience with multiple modes of transportation (Truckload, Temp Controlled, LTL, Intermodal and Rail).
Where You’Ll Work:
- This position will be in an office environment; Exposure to warehouses, trucks and distribution centers will occur on a regular basis.
- This position requires the ability and willingness to work non-traditional business hours (evenings, weekends, etc.)
- Position requires the ability to travel 10% of time and adhere to the corporate travel policy.
