Job Description

About the role

Sydney Airport is seeking a technically skilled and solutions-focused BHS Mechanical Engineer to join our Group Operations team. This role is critical to ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable performance of our Baggage Handling System (BHS), a vital part of the airport’s infrastructure.

As part of the BHS Asset Team, you’ll provide mechanical engineering expertise across day-to-day operations, system upgrades, and lifecycle planning. You’ll work closely with internal stakeholders, contractors, and OEMs to troubleshoot issues, drive continuous improvement, and deliver engineering projects that enhance system reliability and throughput.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to

  • Provide technical support for BHS operations, maintenance, and fault resolution.
  • Lead or support engineering projects including upgrades, modifications, and replacements.
  • Analyse performance and maintenance data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and develop corrective and preventive actions.
  • Optimise preventive maintenance schedules and review spare parts strategies.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, OEMs, and contractors to plan and deliver system works.

About You

You’re a proactive and detail-oriented engineer with a passion for making things happen. You bring:

  • A degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Industrial Engineering (postgrad in Asset Management or Data Analytics desirable).
  • 3–5 years’ experience in mechanical engineering within operational or maintenance environments—ideally in material handling or airport systems.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with data tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI).
  • Project engineering experience including scopes of work, design reviews, and contractor coordination.
  • Knowledge of machinery safety standards and preventive maintenance principles.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
