Amazon’s eCommerce Foundation (eCF) organization provides the core technologies that drive and power Amazon's Stores, Digital, and Other (SDO) businesses. Millions of customer page views and orders per day are enabled by the systems eCF builds from the ground up. CloudTune, within eCF, empowers growth and business agility needs by automatically and efficiently managing AWS capacity and business processes needed to safely meet Amazon’s customer demand. CloudTune serves its primary customers, internal software teams, through forecast driven automation of cost controllership, capacity management and scaling. We predict expected load, and drive procurement and allocation of AWS capacity for new product launches and high velocity events like Prime Day and Cyber Monday.
We are looking for an experienced Sr. Technical Program Manager to join our CloudTune Science team who owns the science solutions and forecasting engines for multiple systems. In this role, you will be working with scientists, software engineers, data engineers, and product managers on a variety of important applied machine learning problems in the area of time series modeling. This role will be responsible for the software that produces mission critical forecasts that inform procurement and allocation of compute capacity for Amazon SDO. The CloudTune forecasts are consumed across Amazon during new product launches, high velocity events and non-peak periods.
As a TPM in the CloudTune team, you'll partner with technology and science teams to build sophisticated algorithms that involve learning from large amounts of past data, such as actual sales, website traffic, merchandising activities, promotions, similar products and product attributes, in order to forecast the key demand drivers for our compute infrastructure. You will be expected to deliver initiatives that benefit all of Amazon while leveraging latest in AWS, big data and machine learning. You will envision and build the tools, programs, and policies that will underpin the next phase of Amazon’s growth. The role supports cross-functional teams in diverse roles including scientists, software engineers, data engineers, and product managers. This role is highly visible, requiring an ability to communicate clearly and precisely with customers and stakeholders.
The successful candidate will have a strong TPM background, with demonstrated experience leading large cross-organizational software development projects, and will have a deep technical background in current web and micro-service technologies, preferably including Amazon Web Services. You must be able to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial environment, and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities. This means you are not only able to develop and drive high-level strategic initiatives, but can also roll up your sleeves, dig in and help drive change. As a TPM, you will anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management, anticipate and make tradeoffs, and balance business needs versus technical constraints. An ability to take large, complex projects and break them down into manageable pieces, help engineering leaders develop functional specifications, then deliver programs in a successful and timely manner is expected. Maturity, high judgment, negotiation skills, ability to influence, analytical talent and leadership are key factors to success in this role.
This is an excellent opportunity for an established TPM seeking to demonstrate broad cross-organizational business and/or technology influence while driving large engineering efforts that solve significantly complex or endemic problems.
