Description
Design and produce high-quality graphics, illustrations, data visualizations, and multimedia assets that clearly communicate climate and Earth science information across print, web, and social media platforms.Key Responsibilities
- Design and format graphs, data visualizations, schematics, infographics, cartoons, and other graphics to illustrate, explain, and contextualize climate and Earth science-based information, data products, services, tools, and applications.
- Design brochures, presentations, and multi-page reports. Locate high-quality sources of imagery available through free and paid licensing arrangements.
- Prepare photographs, design and update visualization templates, and format assets for print and web publication.
- Perform image preparation tasks, including cropping and color correction of photographs and other imagery.
- Develop a brand style guide and templates for web and social media for typography, maps, information graphics, and data visualizations for web and social media; update social media templates as needed to reflect recommended sizes and aspect ratios for different platforms.
- Develop 2-D and 3-D illustrations, both static and animated, and optimize animations and videos for web streaming.
Skills, Knowledge And Expertise
- Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design, and at least 5 years of experience in scientific illustration of Earth and climate science topics.
- Extensive portfolio of published work showing mastery of a variety of techniques and formats, including schematics, 3D diagrams, cartoons, maps, graphs, animations, infographics, brochures, and multi-page proposals.
- Expert-level knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite products, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and at least basic knowledge of After Effects.
- Experience developing visual branding, style guides, and templates.
- Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced environment with daily production deadlines.
- Experience efficiently adapting a single graphic for use across multiple online platforms with different image specifications.
- Prior history supporting NOAA Climate.gov website and its related social media channels.
