Position Summary
The systems analyst role will perform advanced to highly advanced (senior-level) artificial intelligence (AI) focused on computer systems analysis work. This position is responsible for bridging the gap between business needs and technical solutions by analyzing, designing and supporting the integration of AI systems. This role will report to the Director of Applied AI with considerable to extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
- Analyzes new or existing AI procedures, AI information systems, and AI programs for efficiency and effectiveness; establishes the appropriate governance for AI oversight, development and implementation of AI information security strategies, policies and procedures for statewide adoption.
- Tests and diagnoses AI systems to ensure that critical requirements are met.
- Designs, modifies, and implements new or revised AI systems to serve new purposes or improve workflows; May manage and lead AI integrations across IT platforms in collaboration with agency divisions.
- Oversees and/or prepares charts, diagrams, tables, and flowcharts to assist in AI problem analysis and submits and that depicts the present and proposed systems in terms of costs, benefits derived, and tasks accomplished.
- Coordinates and/or participates in the development and execution of enterprise-level AI strategies and technical direction, including establishing processes and procedures for executing and maintaining technology road maps.
- Coordinates AI projects that involve cross-functional agency systems and other state entities, including planning and scheduling during project development and implementation stages.
- Assists in the development and implementation of AI strategic planning actions and policy decisions related to the agency’s systems and needs.
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Business Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Business, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
- Additional work-related experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis (High-school diploma required).
- Five (5) years of senior-level experience supporting AI implementations
- Five (5) years of experience performing stakeholder analysis and coordinating user acceptance testing
- Three (3) years of experience in programming languages
- Three (3) years of AI software development and source code analysis and knowledge
- AI training and/or certifications
- Knowledge of the limitations and capabilities of computer systems, the techniques used in the design of non-automated systems, information technology equipment, applicable programming languages, computer hardware and software, computer operating systems, writing program code, and automated mapping
- Knowledge of AI platforms and services (current and emerging)
- Knowledge of AI concepts such as machine learning, large language models (LLMs), vector embeddings, and semantic search
- Knowledge of data modeling, security, and governance, particularly in the context of AI
- Skill in solving problems; in scheduling, testing, installing, and implementing programs and in troubleshooting computer systems
- Skilled in AI systems performance, security, and ethical guidelines, and governance frameworks
- Skilled in troubleshooting and resolving issues within AI systems and developing alternative solutions to problems
- Skilled in data collection, analysis, modeling, testing, etc.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and cordial working relationships at all organizational levels, including agency management, direct supervisors, co-workers, internal and external customers.
- Ability to analyze systems and procedures, to write and revise standards and procedures, and to communicate effectively
- Ability to transform complex technical specifications into user-friendly documentation and presentations for technical and non-technical groups
- Ability to understand, follow and convey brief oral and/or written instructions.
- Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to support and contribute to a cohesive team environment.
- Ability to work under pressure and exacting schedules to complete assigned tasks.
