The Leo team is looking for a Lead Harness Quality Engineer who will lead a team of harness quality engineers to define requirements and deploy processes to deliver aerospace quality at unprecedented scale. The ideal candidate is a systems thinker with excellent analytical abilities, strong technical skills, effective written and verbal communication, and most importantly, a passion for design quality assurance to produce high-quality, mission-critical harnesses in volume production.
Key job responsibilities
- Responsible for the design quality assurance of electrical harnesses (including harness components and hardware, connectors, backshells, cable and wire) for power distribution, grounding, RF, communication and high-speed data signal.
- Electrical Integrity Ownership: Lead analysis and mitigation strategies for signal degradation, transient susceptibility, and electromagnetic interference (EMI) in test harnesses, flight harnesses and test systems.
- Partner with design engineering, reliability engineering and test engineering teams throughout the product lifecycle to influence harness design and interconnects to ensure electrical signal integrity.
- Serve as the go-to owner for root cause analysis (RCA) of harness anomalies.
- Own and lead Leo quality management activities for all harnesses including requirements definition, part qualification, production process validation, receiving/source inspection, CAPA, metrics reporting, and continuous improvement
- Guide product development teams on supplier selection, assessment, audit and development decisions
- Partner cross-functionally to define Leo Quality System in compliance with AS9100 & IS09001
- Scale supplier processes and quality systems to reduce defects with increasing volumes
- Be a subject matter expert in the disciplines of vendor process management and quality control
- Lead external audit teams
- Influence supplier selections and engineering design decisions to factor sustainable quality
- Influence supplier investments to reduce risk and improve quality of components
- Establish and monitor supplier mechanisms for verifying production processes remain in control
- Analyze and improve supplier quality metrics
- Represent Leo Supplier Quality in cross-functional initiatives
- Travel as needed to accomplish program objectives
A day in the life
- Participates in product development teams as owner of supplier quality system requirements
- Acts with internal customer obsession on behalf of Leo production by reducing defect rates and driving root cause analysis
- Builds and enforces implementation of the Leo Quality System
- Serves as the face of Leo Quality for suppliers communicating expectations, reviewing methods and resolving issues
- Facilitates component quality control as subject matter expert in partnership with receiving and inspection teams
- Owns development and automation of business processes impacting quality
- Splits time between Amazon facilities and visiting supplier operations

- Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
- Familiarity with MIL-STD-461, IPC/WHMA-A-620, or similar EMI and harnessing standards
- Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures
- Experience developing and executing PPAP
- Experience conducting supplier quality system and process audits
- Experience driving supplier RCCA
- 5+ years experience as Electrical Engineer designing wiring harness for large electrical systems
- Experience working with contract manufacturing for wiring harnesses
- Experience designing wiring systems for space environments w/ EMI
- Hands on experience in hardware debug and automated verification
- Awareness of industry standards and regulations (SAE, ISO, IPC, etc.)
- Experience with the project management of technical projects
- Experience in project management of technical programs
- Experience working in aerospace, medical, or other regulated environments
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
- Experience in spacecraft or high-reliability electronics environments
- Experience with harness design and testing methods (DWV, IR, NEXT, FEXT, TDR, VSWR, etc.) for complex systems
- Experience with ECAD software KiCad, Altium, Expedition, and/or Mentor Graphics
- Strong cross-functional coordination skills with avionics, systems, test, and harness manufacturing teams

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $128,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $213,600/year in our highest geographic market.
