Position Description
The Field Quality Manager serves as a vital bridge between corporate quality, product development, lab services, account managers, customers and manufacturing plants across North America. This role is responsible for ensuring consistent execution and continuous improvement of food safety and quality systems across multiple facilities. The Field Quality Manager works closely with Plant Managers and Quality Managers to implement, monitor, and enhance programs that uphold regulatory compliance, product integrity, and cost efficiency. Additionally, this position plays a strategic role in supporting change management, commercialization of new products, audit execution, continuous improvements, staff training and development.
Essential Functions
- Provide leadership and guidance on food safety, food quality, company and customer standards North America manufacturing sites.
- Ensure compliance with City, state, FDA, cGMP, HACCP, GFSI (preferably SQF), and customer standards.
- Collaborate with plant leadership to enhance other programs such as sanitation practices, quality assurance, Clean in Place, etc.
- Lead training initiatives for plant associates and quality technicians with a focus on the “why” behind food safety and food quality.
- Review and evaluate plant-level programs for compliance with corporate, customer, and regulatory standards.
- Provides guidance and training on work standards and expected outcomes.
- Support commercialization of new products and processes by coordinating with cross-functional teams. Lead Change Management efforts across facilities and ensure proper execution and validation.
- Conduct regular on-site visits to facilities; coordinate visit schedules with Corporate Quality and site management.
- Execute internal audit programs and support facilities during audits. Document audit findings, issue reports, and track corrective actions to closure.
- Develop and implement tools to assess overall facility performance on food safety and quality programs.
- Support and monitor CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Action) implementation and follow-up validations.
- Participate in weekly quality team meetings and provide regular updates to the Corporate Quality management team.
- Maintain quality location logs, weekly reports, and strategic updates.
- Actively contributes to troubleshooting product quality concerns and support continuous improvement initiatives such as yields, waste, water savings, etc.
- Promote cost-effective, practical solutions for quality deficiencies and challenges.
- Serve as a subject matter expert and training resource for facility-level quality managers and teams.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Knowledge of FDA, cGMP, HACCP, and GFSI (SQF preferred) principles.
- Strong understanding of sanitation and manufacturing processes in food and beverage environments.
- Proven ability to lead, train, and motivate cross-functional teams.
- Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and other business tools.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and timelines.
- Strong report writing and analytical capabilities.
- Familiarity continuous improvement tools such as lean, six sigma (DMAIC, 5 Why’s, etc).
Education And Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field preferred
- 7–10 years of progressive experience in Quality Assurance or Quality Control within the food and beverage industry.
- Experience in multi-site quality management or field quality support is highly desirable.
Working Conditions:
- Physical - Continuously standing or walking.
- Visual/Sensory - This position requires regular need to give moderate attention with one or two senses at a time.
- Work environment - Work and environment are very repetitive.
- Mental Stress - There is pronounced pressure from deadlines, production quotas, accuracy or similar demands.
