This is an exciting opportunity within MCB’s Risk Strategic Business Unit (SBU) and it offers a solid foundation for a banking career.

As part of Risk SBU, Country Risk BU is focused on the governance, identification, assessment, management and reporting of the risks and opportunities in the countries core to the Bank’s strategy.

The Country Risk Analyst will support the Senior Country Risk Officer in monitoring the risks in the cross-border portfolio in accordance with the Bank’s Risk Management Framework.

We Are Looking For:

Job vacancy: Country Risk Analyst

In This Role You Will:

  • Actively monitor political, economic and security trends in select African countries and commodity market developments;
  • Prepare regular internal reports on how developments could create risk and/or opportunities for MCB;
  • Contribute to internal and external risk reporting on cross-border exposures and limit setting;
  • Prepare country or commodity specific research to support the credit assessment process for current or new transactions;
  • Work on miscellaneous projects covering risk issues for risk.

To succeed, you will be required to demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Makes sense of complex, high quantity, and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems;
  • Anticipates and adopts innovations in business-building digital and technology applications;
  • Learns through experimentation when tackling new problems, using both successes and failures as learning fodder;
  • Adapts approach and demeanor in real time to match the shifting demands of different situations.

We are looking for candidates who have:

Either

  • A Bachelor's degree with a focus on macroeconomics, international relations or politics;
  • At least 1 year of working experience in risk consulting, investment banking or management consulting.

Or

• At least 4 years of working experience in risk consulting, investment banking or management consulting.

And

  • Experience in emerging markets would be great but not crucial – we’re interested in your curiosity and passion for international news and markets;
  • Communication and confidence: you write concisely and speak clearly, with the confidence to present your ideas;
  • Energy and drive: you bring a sense of urgency and a ‘can do’ attitude;
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills;
  • High proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Willingness to travel into the African continent;
  • Time management and ability to work autonomously.
