Company Description
What'S Furbnow?
Furbnow is a retrofit service helping homeowners reduce their energy bills, cut their carbon footprint, and fix their cold homes. We guide customers through the messy, complicated decisions around upgrading their homes - then we actually get it done, from design through to installation, with expert support throughout.
Our customers are navigating something that's often costly, confusing, and frankly a bit scary. That's where we come in. We're building a digital platform that will allow us to scale the business to tens or hundreds of thousands of homes, managing a customer journey with many touchpoints, large amounts of data, information, and technical coordination. Having digitised the core processes, we are automating and building AI features to turbo-charge our delivery.
Job Description
About The Role
You'll be working directly with our Senior SWE, CTO and collaborating closely with our product, growth, and delivery teams. This is a hands-on engineering role where you'll be building the systems that power how we actually operate.
You'Ll Work Across:
- Our Django platform - customer journeys, project tracking, internal tools, and the integrations that tie everything together
- Energy calculations - our Home Digital Twin model runs calculations and heat loss modelling that inform retrofit designs
- Internal tooling - making our project coordinators, surveyors, and installers more effective
What you'll be doing
Building features end-to-end. You'll take a problem like "project coordinators are spending hours on admin that could be automated" and ship a solution. From database schema to UI.
Improving what exists. We have real software serving real customers. Some of it needs performance work, refactoring, or rethinking. You'll make pragmatic calls about when to fix and when to rebuild.
Working with messy, real-world data. Retrofit involves energy calculations, supplier pricing, grant eligibility rules, customer documents. You'll build systems that handle this complexity without breaking.
Collaborating with non-engineers. Our delivery team knows where the friction is. You'll talk to project coordinators, surveyors, and customers to understand what actually needs building.
Shipping and iterating. Some weeks you'll push a quick fix to unblock the team. Other weeks you'll be deep in a larger feature. You'll know when to be scrappy and when to slow down.
Qualifications
A bit about you
You've got solid experience. You’ve built web applications professionally. You've shipped things that real people use.
You know Python and Django (or can pick it up fast). Our backend is Django + PostgreSQL.
You're comfortable across the stack. You’re comfortable building a functional UI. We use HTMX and Alpine.js for some interactivity on the frontend.
You can work with ambiguity. Requirements aren't always perfectly defined. You'll figure out what needs to happen and make sensible tradeoffs.
You care about the problem, not just the code. You want to understand why something needs building. You'd rather solve the right problem imperfectly than the wrong problem elegantly.
You communicate well. You share progress, flag blockers, and work well with people who aren't engineers.
You work like it's 2026. You use AI tools where they help. You're pragmatic about new technologies.
This role isn't for you if...
You want a pure greenfield environment. We have existing systems that need extending and improving. However there is room for plenty of new features.
You need detailed specs for everything. We're a small team. You'll often need to figure out the right approach yourself.
You only want to write code. This role involves talking to the delivery team, understanding operational problems, and sometimes doing things that aren't strictly engineering.
You prefer large, established teams. We're small and moving fast. You'll have a lot of ownership and not much hierarchy.
