Dam Engineering Manager

Work. The Dam Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing the delivery of engineering aspects of dam projects across the asset lifecycle of options assessment, concept design, preliminary design, detailed design, construction, and maintenance and operations support. This is a key role in the Engineering Services leadership team and is responsible for providing expertise around technical governance, design management, and review for dam projects.

As Dam Engineering Manager at Sunwater, you will:

• Lead a team of Engineers providing expert dam design services across all asset lifecycle phases, including resource planning, technical oversight, and general team administration.
• Manage external contractors delivering engineering and professional services for dam projects, including scope development and budget control.
• Provide ongoing technical design support to Project Managers, ensuring project outcomes meet time, quality, and budget expectations, and guiding scope variations and assessments.
• Advise Project Managers on technical briefs for dam engineering studies, including risk assessments, safety reviews, and major project frameworks.
• Serve as a member of the Dam Safety Technical Decision Maker and Emergency Response teams, including potential participation in the Flood Response Team with on-call and extended hours during emergencies

We are seeking a highly talented individual with a 10+ years’ experience in dam design, operation and maintenance. Proven experience in the civil, structural and geotechnical design of referable dams, and understanding of hydrological and hydraulic design, plus registration as an RPEQ under the Professional Engineers Act 2002 (QLD)

• Ability to drive cross-functional and cross-business collaboration to align design outcomes with Sunwater’s engineering standards, safety in design, operational needs, dam safety, and stakeholder expectations.
• Well-developed commercial acumen and business skills that support the use of engineering knowledge in the workplace and community.
• Excellent communication skills with a knack for leading the formulation of engineering concepts and design throughout all project phases and present these to Portfolio, Executive and Board committees
