Nokia provides leading DWDM transmission systems. A key component of the optical transport system business infrastructure is a planning tool, which accurately models the physics of optical transmission and optimizes the equipment of a DWDM system to implement customer traffic demands on the given fiber infrastructure with minimum cost.
We are looking for passionate Engineers who will become the future domain experts in Optical networking.
- Position: Internship
- Duration: 12 months
- Start date: January, 2026
- Location: Hybrid in Carnaxide, Portugal
- Education Recommendations: Currently a candidate finishing their BSc or MSc degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering
- Contribute to the definition and specification of the planning tool functions based on PLM input and internal and external customer requests. This includes defining use cases, network topologies on which the planning tool operates, user interfaces, m2m interfaces, and planning tool algorithms like optimization algorithms, equipment selection rules etc.
- Understand the specifics of Nokia line systems and tailor the planning tool functions and algorithms to new revisions of line systems and new line system features.
- Work with R&D in Agile teams to implement the line system functions and deliver a product to internal and external customers
You Have:
- Master’s Degree in an engineering discipline (computer science or electrical engineering with focus on fiber optics or optical physics)
- In-depth knowledge of optical communication systems and high capacity coherent DWDM networks mandatory
- Understanding of linear and nonlinear physical impairments in fiber optical transmission systems.
- Hands on programming using JAVA, python, MATLAB, or other, e.g. to develop proof of concepts
It would be nice if you also had:
- Excellent communication and presentation skills and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary, multi-site and multi-national team environment.
- Self-directed and highly motivated.
- Hands-on experience in planning and optimization of optical DWDM networks is very desirable.
- Ability to think strategically and analytically.
