Job Summary
We seek a Associate Data Architect with SQL Data Migration to audit, document, replatform, and migrate all SQL objects and datasets.
Role Overview:
This role leads the full SQL workload migration lifecycle. Operates largely independently. Must reverse‑engineer undocumented systems, gather stakeholder context, and produce reusable documentation.
Responsibilities:
• Audit all tables, views, stored procedures, functions, SQL Agent jobs, and dependencies.
• Document schema relationships, data flows, lineage, and interdependencies.
• Identify and document business use cases and downstream consumers for each SQL object.
• Meet with affiliate teams to validate use cases and uncover undocumented dependencies.
• Recommend Azure-based targets: Azure SQL, Managed Instance, Data Lake/OneLake, Fabric Lakehouse/Warehouse, or SharePoint.
• Redesign structures where appropriate—do not blindly lift-and-shift.
• Provision or coordinate provisioning of cloud targets.
• Execute extraction, migration, validation, reconciliation, and post-migration support.
• Repoint downstream services or coordinate with BI/Power Platform/ETL owners.
• Produce final-state architecture diagrams, data models, use-case maps, and consumer catalogs.
• Support retirement sequencing and SQL server decommissioning.
Education / Training
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent.
• Preferred: Azure Data Fundamentals, Azure Administrator Associate, Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate.
• SQL/Data platform certifications a plus.
Required Skills
• 10+ years SQL Server engineering, migration, or data architecture experience.
• Strong T-SQL proficiency and ability to reverse-engineer undocumented systems.
• Experience with Azure SQL, Managed Instance, Data Lake, Fabric Lakehouse/Warehouse.
• Understanding of relational design, normalization, and referential integrity.
• Ability to map upstream/downstream dependencies.
• Fluent English (reading, writing, speaking).
• Strong documentation skills.
• Ability to work independently within an Agile structure.
Preferred Experience / Skills
• Experience migrating SQL workloads to Azure or Fabric.
• Knowledge of Power BI dataset modeling and Power Platform usage.
• Familiarity with data governance and lineage tracking.
• Diagramming with Lucidchart or Visio.
• Experience coordinating multi-team cutovers.
