Your Opportunity
Our Mining Advisory Group has a need for a Process Engineer. Reporting to the Manager of Process Engineering, you will be responsible for providing mineral processing engineering services and leadership for the design of safe, productive, and cost-effective mineral processing plants for all sizes of projects and types of commodities from early study phases through detailed engineering.
This position can be remote based with preference for Salt Lake City, UT, Denver, CO, or Phoenix, AZ as your home base. Position may require up to 30% travel on average based on project demands.
Your Key Responsibilities

- Working in compliance with all Health and Safety rules and regulations for Stantec and its Clients.
- Ensuring all applicable safety codes, regulations and guidelines are met by appropriate design and use of technology.
- Review and analysis of drawings for possible safety and constructability problems prior to issue to clients.
Engineering & Design Tasks:
- Perform process engineering tasks on Minerals Processing projects, in a variety of commodities
- Operate with full competence and independence in the execution of all process plant design requirements and subsequent reporting requirements
- Develop new criteria/calculations where required, maintaining high levels of accuracy
- Provide frequent training, guidance, and supervision to junior colleagues
- Actively engage with clients to understand project requirements
- Grow the organization client base
- Participate in the preparation of proposals and other business development initiatives
- Participate in selected conferences and seminars
- Perform, oversee and mentor others in the development of:
- Process scope definition and technology selection
- Process design criteria
- Define the process block flow diagram and unit operations
- Development of Process Flow Diagrams, along with associated mass and energy balance calculations
- Trade off studies to resolve options
- Identify, scope and manage process testwork (on site or laboratory based)
- Conduct capacity analysis for existing plants
- Select the equipment for projects
- Carryout engineering design calculations and equipment sizing calculations
- Prepare specifications of process attributes for equipment, through compilation of process datasheets (or process input to general datasheets)
- Compilation of Process Description
- Design of the process control logic adhering to appropriate safety standards, and documentation into Functional Descriptions
- Display full competence and independence in the compilation of P&IDs and all levels of control philosophies
- Process specifications portray the appropriate information and design intent
- Process review of equipment bids
- Compile operating cost estimates including estimation of consumables, labor, maintenance materials and power
- Provide input to capital cost estimates
- Prepare written project reports
- Liaising with other discipline engineers to ensure design development activities conform to process requirements
- Contribute to hazard studies
- Potentially may be asked to participate with on-site commissioning of new equipment and process systems
- Act as a key leader in developing our mineral process engineering program.
- Interface with clients on-site.
- Work with a multi-disciplined engineering and design team on a day-to-day basis.
- Perform various office tasks as required to deliver a quality product on schedule.

Education And Experience
- Mineral Processing, Metallurgical, or Chemical Engineering degree.
- 5 - 20+ years of experience in Mineral Processing or closely related industry
- 5 - 15+ years' experience in increasingly challenging positions
- 5 - 15+ years’ experience performing engineering-related design or oversight of designs
- 5+ years’ experience in managing an engineering and design team
- Registration as a Professional Engineer is preferred
- Registration as a Qualified Professional is preferred
- You must be a self-starter and be able to work in a team setting.
- You must be enthusiastic about the prospect of developing a team to work with you and engaging in business development activities with prospective clients.
- You must be able to interact with teams which are at times in remote offices.
- Extensive design, commissioning and/or operational experience of minerals processing equipment and processes (comminution, flotation, DMS, gravity separation, leaching, screening, thickening, filtration, ADR, solvent extraction, electrowinning, pressure oxidation, roasting, heap leaching, crystallization, drying, etc.)
- Experience in scoping and management of metallurgical testwork programs (bench scale, pilot scale, on-site testing)
- Experience in modelling of minerals processing equipment and systems
- Strong client focus
- Ability to lead processing engineering tasks on a project, within the allocated budget and schedule, including mentoring and guidance of junior colleagues and professional interaction with other project disciplines
