Job Description
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Database Administrator to join our Technology Division and play a pivotal role in safeguarding the stability, performance, and integrity of RWWA’s database environments across development, test, and production.
Reporting to the Enterprise Systems Lead, this senior technical role is responsible for the end-to-end administration, optimisation, and support of Oracle and SQL Server platforms, along with the web services that integrate with them. You will provide trusted technical leadership, ensure high availability and resilience of critical systems, and partner closely with technical teams and business stakeholders to deliver continuous improvement across our data platforms.
This role is well-suited to a proactive, solutions-focused Senior Database Administrator who enjoys working in complex, enterprise environments and wants to make a tangible impact on business-critical systems.
In this role, you will:
- Lead database administration, performance tuning, and optimisation across Oracle and SQL Server environments.
- Design, implement, and maintain secure, high-availability and disaster recovery solutions.
- Provide operational support for critical systems, including on-call and after-hours support as required.
- Install, configure, patch, and upgrade database software across development, test, and production.
- Develop and maintain database code elements (including PL/SQL) and associated documentation.
- Implement and manage robust backup, recovery, and archival processes.
- Proactively monitor environments, troubleshoot complex issues, and minimise system downtime.
- Provide expert input into strategic and operational IT planning and technology uplift initiatives.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to manage changes and resolve issues.
- Champion best-practice standards for data integrity, security, and operational excellence.
Qualifications
About You
You are an experienced and highly capable database professional who brings deep technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
You will bring:
- Extensive experience administering Oracle databases, including performance tuning, backup and recovery, high availability, and licensing compliance.
- Strong expertise with SQL Server, including Always On availability groups, performance optimisation, and patching.
- Proven experience working with AWS cloud services, including RDS, EC2, and infrastructure automation.
- Advanced skills in Windows and Linux administration, scripting, and troubleshooting.
- A methodical and detail-oriented approach to documentation, change management, and system integrity.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and provide calm, effective support in high-pressure environments.
- A collaborative mindset aligned to organisational values and continuous improvement.
- A relevant tertiary qualification and/or equivalent extensive industry experience.
- Experience with technologies such as Azure, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, Commvault, Dynatrace, GitLab, or YAML will be highly regarded.
