Design Project Coordinator II, III, IV-CDO - (2503600) Position Information 

TxDOT’s Corpus Christi District – Central Design Office is seeking a Design Project Coordinator to support the development of Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E) and assist with quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) across our office’s projects. This role will help ensure consistency in standards and deliverables while collaborating with project managers to maintain alignment on workflows and documentation. In addition to QA/QC responsibilities, you will lead staff training initiatives focused on best practices, technical skills, and process improvements. Annual Salary Grade/Range

Design Project Coordinator II   (B20) - $51,158.00- $81,351.00
Design Project Coordinator III  (B21) - $54,278.00- $87,046.00
Design Project Coordinator IV  (B22) - $57,614.00- $93,138.00

Position Description

 

Provides highly skilled technical expertise and oversees multiple design and/or complex building construction projects. Reports to a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Work requires contact with governmental agencies, consultants and construction firms. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.

Essential Duties for Design Project Coordinator II:

  • Serves as program coordinator responsible for coordination of complex engineering/architectural projects from initiation to completion.
  • Designs projects, making design calculations and sketches of plans, layouts and typical sections.
  • May assist in planning and coordinating office operations.
  • Receives project assignments, determines work requirements to complete project plans and coordinates scheduling to accommodate projects already underway.
  • Reviews and compiles complete plan packages for submission to the responsible engineer or architect for review and signature.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Design Project Coordinator III (In addition to the above):

  • May lead project or planning activities of professional and technical employees or consultants.
  • Performs data collection, evaluations, analyses, studies, inspections, forecasts, assessments, and/or plan development.

Design Project Coordinator IV (In addition to the above):

  • Assists in planning and coordinating office operations.
  • Provides training for area of responsibility.
  • Serves as lead worker and subject matter expert.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: 

High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.

Experience:

Design Project Coordinator II: 8 years of experience in design, plan preparation, construction inspection, surveying.
Design Project Coordinator III & IV: 9 years of experience in design, plan preparation, construction inspection, surveying.

(Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • Safety Impact Certificate-given upon hire

  • Computer-aided drafting and design systems
  • Applicable engineering workstations and applications to support efficient planning and design activities
  • Interactive graphic and design information systems
  • Applicable computer software applications and hardware
  • Higher mathematics

  • Prioritizing projects/workload and meeting deadlines 
  • Performing calculations using algebra, trigonometry and geometry

  • Analyzing and organizing business and technical data

Design Project Coordinator IV (In addition to the above):

  • Design and plan preparation methods and requirements 
  • Leading, assigning, reviewing, and monitoring the work of others
  • Applying engineering principles, practices, and methods in job responsibilities
  • Application of engineering fundamentals
  • Reading and interpreting applicable plans, schematics, blueprints and maps 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
  • Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
