The top half of the posted salary range is generally reserved for candidates who exceed the requirements and qualifications for the role. The maximum salary range is reserved for candidates that far exceed the required and preferred qualifications for the role.
This position is funded through December 30, 2026. Continuation of the position beyond that date is contingent on available funding.
About Office of IT
The Office of Information Technology works closely with all agency divisions to implement innovative technology solutions in a cost-efficient manner that supports the goals and priorities of the Texas Education Agency. The Office of IT provides efficient technology solutions and stellar customer services to internal staff, 20 Educational Service Centers, and 1,200-plus public-school districts and charter schools. The following services are provided by IT: leadership on IT initiatives; guidance on security/policy issues; new application development/enhancements; software acquisition; technical support; assistance with technical sections of purchasing documents such as Request for Information (RFI), Request for Offers (RFO), Request for Proposals (RFP); and oversight on the data collection process which helps to support and improve outcomes for all of Texas’ 5 million-plus students.
Position Overview
This role is responsible for delivering advanced, highly skilled technical support for electronic systems across conference rooms and related facilities. The position oversees the design, installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and user training of complex electronic equipment within a professional conference environment. It requires the ability to work independently with minimal supervision, exercising sound judgment and initiative.
Strong customer service skills, effective collaboration with cross‑functional teams, and the ability to clearly communicate technical information to leadership are essential. This role requires on‑site presence in the office Monday through Friday, and flexibility to work extended or irregular hours during legislative sessions and other peak periods.
This position reports to the IT Operations Support Manager and operates under minimal supervision while managing significant deadlines.

Essential Functions

1. Conference Room Facilities Management: Oversees all aspects of conference room facilities, managing the reservation system and ensuring spaces are properly scheduled, set up, and maintained for agency events. This role requires close coordination with internal and external stakeholders to guarantee that all facility needs are met efficiently and professionally, including direct support for SBOE and SBEC meetings. The technician is expected to be onsite during these meetings, providing hands-on technical and logistical support as needed.
2. Audio-Visual Equipment Setup and Troubleshooting: This position provides comprehensive support for audio-visual equipment, handling setup, troubleshooting, and advanced problem resolution for devices such as projectors, video streaming systems, and other conference technologies. The technician ensures that all equipment is operational, compliant with ADA and safety standards, and is also expected to assist with light event setup, including moving tables and chairs as needed. Extended hours may be required to support the technical needs of SBOE and SBEC meetings.
3. Maintenance and Vendor Coordination: Manages the ongoing maintenance of conference equipment, which includes procuring and monitoring vendor services, conducting condition assessments, and prioritizing repairs and improvements. The technician maintains detailed records of equipment status and service history to ensure optimal performance and reliability, and coordinates with vendors and agency staff to support the unique requirements of high-profile meetings such as SBOE and SBEC.
4. Technical Support and Training: Provides technical support for computers, notebooks, WiFi, LAN, cellular networks, and other technologies used within conference rooms. The position involves developing and delivering training materials for staff and users, as well as offering technical assistance and guidance to promote effective use of conference facilities. The technician is responsible for ensuring that all participants in SBOE and SBEC meetings receive prompt and effective technical support, often requiring extended hours and rapid problem resolution.
5. Customer Service and Problem Solving: Builds strong relationships with clients and stakeholders. Provide a solution-oriented approach to service issues, ensuring that problems are resolved quickly and effectively, while communicating clearly and making sound decisions to maintain high levels of customer satisfaction. The role demands flexibility and a commitment to long hours of support and coordination, especially during major events and board meetings.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
• Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university
• Experience: At least two (2) years of experience in conference facility support
• Substitutions: Each additional year of related experience above the required minimum may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis
Other Qualifications
• Share the belief that all Texas students can achieve at high levels and are able to succeed in college, career, or the military.
• Demonstrated expertise in audio, video, control systems, and other technologies used in modern conference room environments.
• Working knowledge of construction and project management practices, including site inspections, equipment installation, and basic repairs.
• Proficiency with personal computers and common software applications, including email, spreadsheets, word processing, and database tools.
• Strong organizational, time‑management, and planning abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, agency staff, tenants, customers, and the public.
• Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to communicate technical information clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and serve as a lead or subject‑matter expert in project‑related activities.
• Capability to stoop, bend, lift, and stand for extended periods as required by the work environment.
• Ability to safely move and transport up to 20 pounds of equipment, products, or materials.
