The Bankruptcy Paralegal will work as part of our Litigation & Disputes service line supporting attorneys on all aspects of complex bankruptcy litigation matters. Primary responsibilities will consist of preparing motions for relief, fee applications, proofs of claim, schedules, petitions and financial statements. This role will also be responsible for managing calendars and deadlines, e-filing documents, drafting, discovery and managing client matters. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience working on bankruptcy-related matters across various jurisdictions representing Chapter 7 trustees, creditors, investors, distressed debt lenders and committees.
Where You'll Work
The Bankruptcy Paralegal is an hourly non-exempt position and will work full-time in our Tampa, Florida office.
What You'll Do
- Draft various court filings such as proofs of claim, motions for relief and fee applications.
- Prepare various documents such as petitions, schedules, financial statements, binders and discovery requests.
- Meet strict deadlines while handling cases in various jurisdictions throughout the United States and internationally.
- Utilize CM/ECF and Pacer filing systems to file documents with the court.
- Calendar events and deadlines, ensuring deadlines are met.
- Maintain and organize all physical and electronic client matters.
- Read, interpret and index legal and financial records.
- Effectively communicate with different personalities relaying messages and updates between clients and attorneys.
- Bachelor’s degree and/or Paralegal Certificate, or equivalent relevant work experience.
- At least 5 years of experience functioning in a bankruptcy paralegal position with a strong knowledge of the Rules of Federal Bankruptcy Procedure and the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.
- Experience with local and federal bankruptcy court procedures and practices, including the preparation of binders and agendas preferred.
- Must be able to handle shifting and strict deadlines across multiple locations.
- Working knowledge of Best Case Software, CM/ECF and Pacer filings.
- Experience working with Chapter 7 and California law are a plus.
- Outstanding communication skills both in writing and verbally.
- Strong technological and organizational skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Sits frequently, six out of eight hours per day. Sitting position static for up to one-half hour at a time.
- Bends and stoops occasionally, up to one-half hour per day.
