Background/Context

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. 

We are seeking a social viral Video producer who is passionate about gender equality, women’s representation, and impactful storytelling. The ideal candidate will create short-form video content that educates, empowers, drive positive behavioral change and motivates audiences across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube Shorts, and X. This role combines creative production with social impact—transforming real stories, advocacy messages, and awareness topics into highly shareable video content that is both entertaining and educational.

The work directly shapes public perception, awareness, and engagement around gender equality, inclusion, and social justice. Through viral storytelling, you will help raise UN Women’ visibility, enhance engagement with our audience, push meaningful dialogue, inspire action and elevate the voices of women and girls around the world. 

 

Description of Responsibilities /Scope of Work

Content creation & storytelling

  • Propose and produce video content that supports messaging around gender equality, women's empowerment, women’s rights protection, with inclusive and diverse representation
  • Script, shoot and edit impactful, emotional, bold, and relatable short-form content
  • Turn complex advocacy topics into simple, compelling narratives suited for social platforms
  • Create content that highlights lived experiences in UN Women programs, partnerships, campaigns, and community voices

Trends and audience 

  • Spot relevant advocacy moments, movements and global conversations in real time
  • Identify trending formats, conversations, challenges and storytelling styles and integrate these into UN Women context and content while retaining authenticity and mission focus
  • Stay informed on gender equality discourse, policies, campaigns, and progress updates
  • Analyze audience behavior to refine storylines, pacing and creative direction 

Impact optimization

  • Use the media, social media and editorial analytics to amplify reach, engagement and message resonance
  • Test a variety of formats and visual storytelling styles to determine what drives reactions, shares, and meaningful engagement
  • Adapt messaging to different demographics, regions, and cultural sensitivities

Cross-team collaboration

  • Partner with media and campaign teams, editorial and social media team, data researchers, and gender equality experts
  • Collaborate with our global, regional and country teams 
  • Coordinate content creation around relevant pop culture moments, international days, UN commemorations, activations, campaigns, research reports and editorial packages
  • Ensure messaging aligns with organizational values and ethical communication standards

This is a home-based consultancy.

 

FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES: 

  • Passionate about gender equality and human rights
  • Sensitive to ethical communication, representation and guidance the different global teams 
  • Adaptable, creative thinker able to respond rapidly to emerging topics and global moments
  • Able to navigate and communicate with global colleagues in multicultural environments 
  • Comfortable creating tight timelines and flexibility to work sometime out of office hours 

 

Education and Certification:

• A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience:

  • 2+ years creating social-first video content (brand or creator side), including on TikTok
  • Experience with influence-style content, community-driven content production or live social events
  • Experience collaborating with community organizations, activists or program teams
  • Experience in creative industry
  • Familiarity with content related to women’s rights, gender equality, and intersectional advocacy

Languages:

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Spanish or any other UN official is an asset.
