Primary Duties & Responsibilities

The Product Design Engineer position will design and analyze special optical filters used in telecom products. These filters help control light signals and come in many types like narrowband, wideband, and multi-band filters. Help the Sales and Marketing teams by reviewing customer requests and figuring out if we can meet their needs. Use internal systems to quickly give Sales the technical info they need to quote new projects. Design new filter products and managing those designs throughout their life cycle. Write up internal documents that guide how the product moves through the factory. Finalize filter designs and prepare them for manufacturing. Coordinate with the operations team to make sure the filters are built and delivered on schedule. Work with engineers and production teams to define how the products should be made and tested. Help the Quality team investigate and resolve any customer concerns or returns. 

Education & Experience

Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related field

1 year of experience in optical Industry experience or related. Requires skills and experience to involve: In-depth knowledge of thin film deposition processes (e.g., sputtering, evaporation), material selection, layer design, and optical performance optimization used in optics, telecom, and semiconductor applications. Understanding of electromagnetic waves, particularly in optical systems, to design components such as filters, mirrors, and coatings with specific reflection and transmission properties. Ability to diagnose complex technical issues in manufacturing or testing processes, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to improve product performance or yield. Practical skills in troubleshooting failed optical or electronic components using diagnostic tools and techniques, such as inspection microscopes, optical profilers, or signal analysis software. Familiarity with instruments and methods for measuring thin film thickness, refractive index, transmission/reflection spectra, and surface quality—e.g., spectrophotometers, ellipsometers, and interferometers. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Demonstrated experience with LabVIEW, MATLAB, C programming, and TFCalc (Thin Film Calculator). Proficiency in clearly documenting procedures, test results, equipment maintenance guides, and design justifications for engineering and quality assurance purposes. Demonstrated experience reviewing customer requirements and product specifications to determine feasibility, estimate performance outcomes, and contribute to cost and time estimates in technical sales support.
