Job Description

As a Data Engineer at Syngenta, you would support the design and development of data foundations that power our analytics and data science initiatives within Syngenta’s HR organization. Your role would require you to design, build and maintain scalable data pipelines and robust data architectures. You will ensure that the data is of high quality, is accessible and optimized for consumption by data scientists and business analysts
Key Responsibilities
Data Pipeline Development
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines for HR data science and analytics initiatives.
- Develop ETL/ELT processes to integrate data across multiple HR platforms such as HRIS, ATS, LMS, Payroll etc.
- Implement data transformation logic to support analytics and machine learning models
- Ensure data pipeline reliability, performance, and monitoring
Data Science Project Support
- Implement data preprocessing workflows for machine learning initiatives
- Build features and maintain ongoing refresh processes for HR data science models
- Build automated data validation and quality checks for model inputs
- Develop and manage custom API integrations for model deployment. Build and support model monitoring infrastructure.
Data Quality & Governance
- Implement data quality frameworks and automated validation processes
- Ensure compliance with data privacy and governance policies and standards
- Document data lineage and maintain data dictionaries
- Support data stewardship activities and resolve data quality issues
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Technical Skills
- 3+ years experience in data engineering or similar role
- Proficiency in SQL and database management (preferably with cloud platforms)
- Experience with ETL/ELT tools (Informatica, Talend, or similar)
- Knowledge of programming languages (Python, R, or Java)
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (Databricks, AWS Sagemaker, Azure, or GCP)
HR Systems Experience
- Workday experience (HCM, Reporting, or Prism Analytics)
- Understanding of HR data structures and employee lifecycle data
- Experience with HRIS integrations and data flows
- Knowledge of HR metrics and KPIs
Data & Analytics
- Understanding of data modeling concepts and best practices
- Experience with data warehousing and dimensional modelling
- Basic knowledge of machine learning workflows and model deployment
- Familiarity with business intelligence tools (Tableau, Power BI, or similar) preferred
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or related field
- Advanced Python or Java skills, specifically for data manipulation and API integrations
- Experience with Apache Spark, Kafka, or other big data technologies
- Knowledge of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
- Previous experience in pharmaceutical, agricultural, or regulated industries
Soft Skills
- Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking abilities
- Excellent communication skills for technical and business stakeholders
- Collaborative mindset for working with cross-functional teams
- Detail-oriented with focus on data accuracy and quality
