About the Role

As a Legal Counsel, your main focus will be to take an active part in the decision-making related to regulatory, commercial and legal matters and is responsible for enabling, guiding and protecting the H&M Group and thereby delivering value to the H&M Group.

This involves guiding in the regulatory landscape, negotiating, writing and reviewing various agreements and giving legal advice.

A Legal Counsel is responsible for understanding global legal requirements and standards and supporting the Group to achieve these wherever possible. Further, a Legal Counsel is responsible for assisting with training in relevant legal areas.  

This hybrid role reports into our Controlling Manager and is based out of our México City Support Office.

A Day in the Life

Working at H&M means no two days are ever the same, but a typical day will include the following responsibilities:

  • You set and enforce legal standards, templates and strategies.
  • You negotiate, draft and review various agreements, including lease agreements.  
  • You conduct judicial enquiries and due diligence and identify and analyze any risks and consequences associated hereto.  
  • You stay up to date and understand global legal requirements and standards and support your market to achieve these.  
  • You support with tendering processes etc.  
  • You constantly improve our contracts so that we are safeguarded in the best possible way.  
  • You handle and settle disputes.  
  • You set and implement routines and the way of working for execution, handling and administration of contracts and ensure it is done in the correct way.  
  • Assist Sales Market Controllers/Account Manager in corporate matters incl. drafting corporate documentation and governance policies/guidelines  
  • Meet legal objectives – ensuring regulatory compliance whilst securing business aims. 

Qualifications

Who You Are:  

  • A degree in Legal  
  • 3-5 years of legal experience, ideally with experience in leasing or real estate (meriting but not required)  
  • The ability to lead and coach a team, to manage and inspire team members  
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral.  Comfortable to confidently present to senior stakeholders, both internally and externally  
  • Understanding of risk assessment and ability to articulate associated consequences to decision makers  
  • Comfortable with decision-making, even in ambiguous circumstances and tight timelines. 
  • Advanced proficiency in both English and Spanish.
